SPAINS BEST KEPT SECRET

We found, when telling people about the Mar Menor, that most had never heard of it nor could they picture what we meant by an "inland sea"

So here is a fairly basic map to give you an idea of where in Spain the Mar Menor is also an idea of how it looks. Please note the map is not drawn to an exact scale.

Some facts:

  • The Mar Menor was created following an movement of the sub strata rocks which pushed what we now call La Manga above the surface of the sea. This took place many 1000's of years ago.
  • It is approxiately 22km long x 11km wide
  • The deepest point is 7m
  • The tidal rise and fall is so narrow it is un-noticeable
  • There a two inhabited islands towards the south end of the Mar Menor
